Oral Cancer on Rise, Warns Cancer Research UK | TopNews United ...

Recently, the Cancer Research UK has revealed that the cancer cases are surging swiftly in the UK. It has further been informed that majority of the cases are whelming up among men. The oral cancer cases are the one which are causing concern to the authorities.

It has been informed that this year about 6,200 patients have been diagnosed with oral cancer. About ten years back about 4,400 people were said to have been suffering from the disorder. The researchers have linked the growing number of cancer cases with the ill habits of people like smoking, tobacco chewing and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection caused by oral sex.

The people have been asked to look out for the red and white patches in the mouth and ulcers which are not being cured. It has further been revealed that patient with oral HPV infections are less likely to be smokers and alcoholic. The youngsters indulging into oral sex are said to be more prone of being affected with oral cancer.

Richard Shaw from Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre said, ?We have noticed that patients with HPV-related oral cancers tend to be younger, are less likely to be smokers and have better outcomes from treatment than those whose tumors show no evidence of HPV?.

It has been reported that incidences of oral cancer are increasing very sharply. The people are being advised to get oral check up done once in a year to avoid coming in contact with oral cancer. Besides, the need of bringing awareness about oral cancer is also being felt by the authorities concerned. By taking these initiatives, it is believed that control over the oral cancer cases could be established. Dentists have also been asked to provide adequate information about the oral cancer to their patients.
