CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 19, 2012) - Since 1991, Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery has made environmental responsibility a part of its mission. The company and its customers continue to make a positive impact on the environment by making greener choices:
Greener Coffee Choices
Sustainable Coffee Selections
Good Earth serves Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee, including Good Earth's own Latin America Estate Blend and South America Rainforest Blend. The Rainforest Alliance is a non-profit organization that works to combine productive agriculture, biodiversity conservation and human development. Rainforest Alliance Certified farms are required to meet comprehensive social and environmental standards. These standards encompass ecosystem conservation, wildlife conservation, fair treatment and good conditions for workers (including access to healthcare, education and equitable wages), soil and water conservation, and integrated management of waste. Look for the "little green frog" on our coffee bags for Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee.
Good Earth also supports sustainable coffee by selecting and serving Organic, Shade Grown coffee, including their Global Village Espresso used in all espresso-based drinks. Good Earth has partnered with Fratello Coffee Roasters (our roaster for the past twenty years) to work directly with coffee growers in Guatemala, Nicaragua and other countries where the company's coffee is grown. This allows Good Earth to meet and work with farmers at origin to select exceptional flavor profiles and see their sustainability practices in action.
Coffee Grounds for Composting
Good Earth makes their spent coffee grounds available for composting. Individuals and community organizations are encouraged to kick-start their composting programs by picking up coffee grounds from their nearest Good Earth.
Save a Tree! BYO Travel Mug
Customers of Good Earth are encouraged to bring their own travel mug and save some money as well as trees. Any coffee or espresso drink is made for the price of a small, whenever customers use their own travel mug.
"Making greener choices has been part of our company mission since 1991. We continue to move toward sustainability for our company, our community and our planet", says Nan Eskenazi, Co-founder. "We believe in giving people a coffeehouse choice they can feel good about!"
