National Weather Service Looks into Possible Tornado Reports in Pendleton

PENDLETON, Ore. -- The National Weather Service says they received eye witness reports of a possible tornado tonight near Pendleton, but meteorologists say there's no evidence of a tornado.

The NWS says eye witnesses saw a "swirling motion" on the east side of Pendleton during Thursday night's thunder storm.

However, Meteorologist Dennis Hull from the National Weather Service says when they checked out the reports, they didn't see any evidence of tornado damage, or of a tornado on the radar.

"It could have been what we see sometimes on the leaning edge of the strong winds like this is what we call a "gust NATO," a ground wind circulation," Hull said.

While Hull says no tornado damage was done, there was wind damage.

Power lines were knocked down and a barn was destroyed.

The National Weather Service recorded wind speeds of up to 55 miles per hour in the Pendleton area Thursday night.
