In December 2012, YBI signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the leading social microfinance institution in Tunisia, Enda Inter-Arabe (Enda). YBI Director of Network Expansion Dianne Cornes travelled to Tunisa to complete the signing (pictured, left) with Executive Director and co-founder of Enda Inter-Arabe?Essma Ben Hamida.
The organisation is the first YBI member in North Africa, an area with significant youth unemployment challenges, and marks an?important?expansion for our global network.
Enda is a non-profit NGO which has been working to support low-income?Tunisians since 1990. The organisation provides a package of tailored support through?microfinance and complementary services, including skills?training.
Enda is highly regarded across the region for its strong leadership and?established track record in the sector. The organisation is currently serving over?209,000 clients with a portfolio of USD$85M and a staff of over 1,000?people across 67 branches; Enda has built a large network of partners and?supporters. YBI is delighted to be undertaking a partnership with such a?well established and respected organisation.
In 2012, Enda established the ?bidaya? programme to support young?micro-entrepreneurs with training, loan credit without?collateral, and mentoring. To date, it has extended 729 loans to young?entrepreneurs across Tunisia, accompanied by training and other support.
CEO of Youth Business International Andrew Devenport said ?YBI is?absolutely delighted to welcome Enda into our global network. Enda is?a fantastic organisation doing valuable work in a region with a pressing?youth unemployment challenge; we look forward to supporting them?and benefiting from their wealth of experience of what works in youth?enterprise.?
YBI?s partnership will strengthen the bidaya programme via training,?mentoring, monitoring and evaluation and other sharing of global?knowledge and expertise. In retrun Enda will share with the YBI network its expertise?in?micro credit?and long experience in working with the disadvantaged?communities across Tunisia.
Together, Enda and YBI can increase the impact of support for young?people in Tunisia; helping them to?fulfil?their potential, build stronger?communities and propel economic development across the country and?the region.
