Hilary Duff recently revealed the happy news that she's pregnant with her first child (dad is her pro-hockey-player hubby Mike Comrie) -- but not everything is rainbows and milkshakes for the 23-year-old actress. According to FOX News, Duff has been dropped from the upcoming movie The Story of Bonnie and Clyde because the timing of her pregnancy would have interfered with the movie's fall shooting schedule (Duff is due to give birth this winter).
Duff had been on tap to play notorious real-life bank robber Bonnie Parker in the remake of the 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde, which starred Faye Dunaway as Parker and Warren Beatty as Clyde Barrow, Parker's partner in crime and love. Sources close to the production say the decision to move forward without Hilary has been made and that the director, Tonya S. Holly, is already searching for a replacement.
"Hilary won't be available until next June," a source said. "If we could wait we would."
Although the split was apparently amicable, Duff and her representatives haven't yet responded publicly to the news that she has been ditched due to her pregnancy. If the split was less than friendly, Duff could certainly make a case for discrimination.
Famously, actress Hunter Tylo won a $4.8-million judgment when she left her gig on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful to star on Melrose Place in 1996 -- and then promptly fired before filming began on Melrose because she had announced that she was pregnant.
The casting of Duff in the iconic Bonnie Parker role was controversial from the get-go, with Faye Dunaway weighing in with an indiscreet and mean-spirited comment: "Couldn't they have at least cast a real actress?" Duff remained unruffled, replying, "I think it was a little unnecessary but I might be mad if I looked like that now too." Ouch!
All of that appears to be a moot point now. And the Bonnie & Clyde producers have some work cut out for themselves if they want their movie to see the light of day anytime soon: Gossip Girl actor Kevin Zegers, who was slated to play Clyde, also had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. So the movie now needs two completely new leads. Hey, Bonnie & Clyde were always hard to find.
